Different butterflies are attracted to different types of plants. Be sure to research the butterflies in your area and choose the ones that you like best, then tailor your garden to attract only those butterflies. Nectar Plants can include the following: thistles (Cirsium species), bergamot, lilac, viper's bugloss, common azaleas, phlox, teasel, azaleas, dame's-rocket, lantana, petunias, verbenas, lupines, yellow star thistle, California buckeye, yerba santa, brodiaeas, gilias, as well as others.
Feeder Plants can include the following: pipevine, cabbage, rocky mountain bee-plant, pea, white clover, oak, walnut, dill, glasswort, milk weed, as well as others.
A nectar plant is one that the adult butterfly feeds on and a feeder plants is one where the eggs are laid.
